The Advocate, a legal suspense murder mystery, is the first book in The Advocate Series. I found this book a bit slow to start as it was laying an extended background.

Once we got past that it was very enjoyable. Enjoyed the story well enough, but found the Narrator difficult to listen to, she spoke very fast and sometimes it was difficult to tell which character was speaking. I really enjoyed this novel. It was just comp. I am fussy about narrators but this one did a great job. If you could sum up The Advocate in three words, what would they be? Who was your favorite character and why? Saber, she just keeps going and does what is right. Her voice was soothing. Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? If time allowed I could have listened to the entire book in one sitting.

I began the book with a sinking feeling, I did not want to listen to a sad, twisted tale of child abuse. I quickly realized that this would not be a disgusting story, playing on horror for the sake of horror but a well written story of genuine friendship, a blend of mystery, humor, and sadness to produce a story that kept me interested and did not end as I suspected. Saber she is a tough litigator who doesn't give up on the children until she is sure they are being taken care of properly.

Which character — as performed by Summer Rona — was your favorite? Saber I also like ther friend and sometime confidant. Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? Yes as a foster parent I loved reading about all the other things that go into protecting children. This is only my 3rd audiobook, it's also the only book I have completed. The others were hard to follow so shut them off. What was one of the most memorable moments of The Advocate? When Carla and Sabre saw Dr. Which scene was your favorite? The suspense behind Sabre being attacked by the bat. Love Teresa's ability to draw you in from the beginning..

Her books are clean, funny and full of suspense. I've never read or listened to more than 1 book in a series until now, 2 more and I'll be caught up. Keep up the great work Teresa! This is Book 1 of a 7 book series with more to come. I listened to Book 6 first and liked it, so I'll be listening to other books in the series. The protagonist in this legal thriller series is Sabre Orin Brown. She is a lawyer whose specialty is child advocacy.

The real star of this novel is an adorable, brave, and very intelligent 10 year old named Alexis. Narration is fine, but likely deserves 4 stars rather than 3. I like this legal thriller series and recommend it. What made the experience of listening to The Advocate the most enjoyable? I am so happy that I found this series!

Makes working out that much more relaxing and fun - and I have to say I work out just a wee bit longer to hear just one more chapter This is my first from audible. I preferred the Audible method. Other books I've read had sound effects that at times we distracting,.

When Alexis defies her father and escapes with Sabre comes second to Sabre getting a visit from Ron.

See a Problem?

Summer's voice was clear and easy to listen to. I liked the fact that she just read the book as opposed to acting it out using different voices for different characters. I did notice that she was not consistent in pronouncing Sabre's name. I laughed at Sabre chasing the doctor down the hall and asking him to show her his legs. I cried when she was able to see her brother. In this first book of the series we meet Sabre aka Sobs and her closest friend and her associate Bob.

They often work on the same case, sometimes on opposite sides, but they both have a strong commitment to the children and work doesn't change their friendship. Bob is a big support to Sabre as she deals with the disappearance of her brother A parent who is not pleased with the courts decision and takes matters into his own hands. The book is exciting, funny in some cases and opens a person's eyes to the evil that still exists in this world. If you like exciting legal themed books this book is for you.

Representing parents and children when the State of California in the County of San Diego when the State removes children from the homes of their parents. This is a fulfilling, somewhat emotional and stressfully job as injured children and mysterious parental figures don't always tell the same stories or in her current case the do. So much so it would make anyone curious to know if they are privy to the entire story. This case is a difficult one but that is just her work life.

The Advocate

Her personal life is filled with the troubled rantings of her missing brothers girlfriend who is in a mental hospital after suffering a mental break after Sabre's brothers sudden dissaperance. And Sabre's own haunting desire to find out what happened to her brother. This Legal Thriller is written with great passion and you can feel the pain of the children wanting to have a normal life.

The performance of Summer Rona is one of the best I have heard in the mystery novel arena. She is a new voice to me and she is a pleasant surprise. I highly recommend the Advocate and I am looking forward to reviewing more books in this series.

Alexis found out that her dad was not going to let Sabre go so she helped her escape. How does this one compare? Burrell's characters are believable and easy to get attached to. I smiled and laughed with them and felt anguish with them. The story, itself, is a page turner. In fact, I spent several evenings promising myself I would read just one more chapter, and actually reading two or three more. Anyone who is a fan of suspense or mystery will thoroughly enjoy The Advocate.

A simple interview with her ten-year-old client regarding the facts of the case produces more questions than answers.

Through the characters, you will experience shock, the courage and bravery of a small child, compassion, the will to survive, and a determination to find truth and justice.

I found The Advocate to be the perfect book me for to put my amateur sleuth hat on for. In fact, after I read this book, I immediately bought the second book in the series. This book was purchased by me. Sabre Brown is a lawyer, but not just any lawyer, she works in "kiddie court", that means she is assigned to represent the children in cases when they are taken out of the home. Sabre is good at her job, and with her best friend Bob, they rule kiddie court as the best. Sabre's new case, the Murdock case seems straight forward, but there is something about the way the girlfriend looks at Mr.

Murdock, and the way the children act that just doesn't feel right. Sabre is sure there is something more g Sabre Brown is a lawyer, but not just any lawyer, she works in "kiddie court", that means she is assigned to represent the children in cases when they are taken out of the home. Sabre is sure there is something more going on. Going on her gut instinct, she makes a call to Atlanta to where the Murdock's hail from, to find the family name is well-respected and huge in the area. She just happens, good fortune or fate, to get the one detective who has a vested interest in what she is asking about.

Between the two of them, and some favors owed with the FBI and Internal Affairs, and even a little Private Investigator action they uncover much more than just a mommy and daddy fighting in front of the kids!! This is the first book in what is scheduled to be a series written about the life and adventures of Sabre Brown. The focus being her job as a lawyer in kiddie court as an advocate for the children in the court proceedings, and uncovering all the hidden information that needs to be found to make the proper decisions.

Really neat book, lots of twists and turns, intertwining people you would never image knowing each other together. Fitting together lots of pieces of a puzzle and yet leaving a number of them out there for future books. I highly recommend the Advocate and I am looking forward to reviewing more books in this series. That being said, I can only rave about this legal suspense by Teresa Burrell. This story is a heartwarming and heart breaking. It shows the good in people as well as the bad. It gives you an idea of some of the struggles people go through and why they make some of the decisions they do and how those decisions, whether good or bad, have a chain reaction with so many people around them.

I was left sitting on the edge of my seat many times and every now and then I was left crying. Not all stories are meant to have a HEA and even though I was always hoping for one here, the ending was very satisfying. I am looking forward to reading book 2 'The Advocate's Betrayel'. Well done, Teresa Burrell. You have hooked me on a new genre. I started reading yesterday and couldn't put it down.

Burrell has woven a wholly credible tale of deceit, drama and courage. Sabre, a dedicated young attorney, always wants what's best for her clients. When a particularly baffling case lands on her desk, it will take all of Sabre's wits to get to the bottom of things. The Advocate is definitely a page-turner.

The characters come to life with rich description and believable dialogue. It is well paced and the story flows easily. If you're a Fan I started reading yesterday and couldn't put it down. If you're a Fan of courtroom drama and crime fiction, give this book a go Disclaimer: I received a gift copy of this book as preparation for reviewing more recent installments in the Advocate series.

My review is posted voluntarily because I liked this book so much. This book grabbed me from the very first page. Saber Brown is appointed as the attorney for Alexis, the twists and turns don't stop. Alexis is a precocious ten year old who has experienced more in her young years than most adults. But Sabre can smell that something just isn't right. She continues to look for answers, even involving a detective from across the country in Atlanta, as well as her best friend and fellow attorney, Bob.

There are moments in the book where my heart sped up and This book grabbed me from the very first page. There are moments in the book where my heart sped up and stopped as I was waiting for something to happen. When nothing did, I was still sure the other shoe was going to drop. I'm anxious to read more books in this series.

Thanks to the author for sharing her talent! This was a book bub freebie. It's a fairly interesting, adequately-written mystery. I thought it was totally good value for my investment! The author's inexperience is evident in the dialogue and some of the narrative. The plot is complex but pretty transparent. The thing that drove me nuts was the relationship between Sabre and Bob - real close friends but he refers to "my wife?

It just seemed a little stilted and terribly forced. There woul This was a book bub freebie. There would have been room for more character development if she had used fewer. Nonetheless it was a perfectly adequate vacation read. Nov 20, Sara rated it really liked it Shelves: I really enjoyed this book! I love Sabre, she's a really sweet, good-hearted woman and she's strong and brave. Just the way I like my heroines.

Actually, she even exceeded my expectations. I also liked Bob, and their friendship was really cute and I like their bond. Sabre's relationship with her brother Ron touched my heart. It was the sweetest thing. Alexis was a sweet and brave kid. I must say, I didn't expect to like this book so much, but I do.

I loved the suspense. Don't start this book late at night unless you want to be awake until you finish it. I started it after midnight with the intention of reading just a chapter or two and wound up reading until I finished the book around 4: I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. Apr 17, Sheryl rated it it was amazing Shelves: I'm so glad it, I'm I glad I finally got around to it. It's a about a juvenile court appointed attorney who is assigned what looked like to be a simple case involving a pregrant woman and her boyfriend with two children. But this case turns into anything but simple!

I loved the writers suspenseful style of writting. I read this book in one setting, it was a great read and I look forward to reading the series. This book was hard for me to put down. It was fast paced with many twists and turns. Having been an advocate for children abused and displaced from their homes, I felt the glimpse into "the system" was well done. There are many people like Sabre, Marla and Bob fighting for kids today. There are also many who are only in it for a job and don't give a hoot about the kids. I will read Teresa Burrell again. Feb 04, Pam Whitman rated it it was amazing.

If you are looking for a fast-paced mystery without the blood, guts, and gore; without the profanity and explicit sex scenes, then you will probably enjoy this book. I loved that the author wrote this intriguing story without all of that stuff that usually makes me cringe!

Her characters are very well developed and relatable. Her novel has been thoroughly edited which makes it a smooth read. I look forward to reading more of Teresa Burrell's books!
