Red Sails in the Fallout by Paul Kidd
Where there was once fresh water to spare, there is only a trickle of brackish sludge. Theorizing that the water came from a source beyond the desert, Shaani proposes an expedition to re-establish the town's water supply. Xoota, of course, is voted to go with her. Crossing the desert has never been done--and with water in short supply, the task seems impossible. But the ever-helpful Shanni appeals to the town patron Benek, and his love of cryogenically frozen brides, to back the project.

In a sense, they are kind of like guilty pleasure books But the "big" quality of the action and the character development is comparable nonetheless. In the past, we got Justicar and his diverse group.
These arent all of the characters, but are the main characters. After the initial part of the book, which serves to have these three meet each other, they, along with Benek, a racist Pure Human, leave on an adventure to save their town from dehydration and find a base Benek is looking for that is supposed to hold hundreds of cryogenecally sealed human women that he plans to mate with.
Everything leading up to that is fun, but now, the adventure truly begins. Great read, and as ever, a great effort by Kidd. Hopefully, he plans to write a few more Gamma World books One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. The setting has changed, and in many ways makes things more "plausible" taking into account it is a fantasy setting.

As far as the old game went, my group preferred the Aftermath! For those of you still into pencil, dice, and paper games, it's still available. Anyway, as far as THIS book goes. What a fun read. I love some of the misconceptions the characters have about the pre-holocaust world. A story that keeps making you want more. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I've been a big fan of Paul Kidd for a while, so I bought this book just because his name was on it.
I was not disappointed. One person found this helpful. There are certain things i've learnt to expect when diving into a Paul Kidd story: Gamma World, the roleplaying universe in which this book is based, is a post-apocalyptic fantasy world, full of fanciful mutations like bipedal intelligent animals and plants.
The setting is strictly adventure-fantasy, which is borne out in the daily mutations that the characters are subjected to. One day the characters might wake up with quills, another day they might gain the ability to telekinetically set things on fire, and another day they might get nothing at all. Hard post-apocalyptic sci-fi it definitely isn't, yet it still finds the time to go into enough detail about sailing a ship for instance to give the events a genuineness. Magic and weirdness might be in the air, but gravity still works in this universe at 9.
If you like your post-apocalyptic fantasy stories funny, action-packed and gleefully inventive, definitely check this one out - if for no other reason than to see what ents could have been like if Tolkien had made them carnivorous..
Thoroughly entertaining from cover to cover! A friend told me to give it a try and I only regret not reading it sooner. The characters are well thought out and played. The storylike isn't world shattering or jaw dropping but it is very, very difficult to put down.
To sum up this review I must say that this book is quite entertaining. Only 2 left in stock.
