- Rockhounding Montana, 2nd: A Guide to 91 of Montana's Best Rockhounding Sites (Rockhounding Series)
I am relatively new to GPS so I cannot speak to that concern, because putting in coordinates is not something that I know about.

The authors put in a lot of time and research as I can see and I am looking forward to returning to Montana to explore yet more sites. We were able to pick and choose what sites to go to by the descriptive analysis and excellent information about how much effort would be needed to reach each place and time needed to find what we wanted. Love the Rockhounding, "states" series. Great detailed information on gps coordinates, roads and photos as well as where to find places to stay and camp. I usually have a corresponding Delorme map book as a companion guide.

I will never buy new again when I can find used at discounted prices. I would suggest purchasing a newer edition as locations open and close on occasion.

One person found this helpful. This is a pretty good book but when we visited Site 25, Eightmile Creek, we heard the area was actually owned by a land holding company called Plum Creek. After digging for a while, we were visited by a representative from Plum Creek who politely informed us that the area was indeed private property. He was a very nice guy and seemed more concerned with people digging too far into the cliffs, where the overhangs had become dangerously unstable.
It's only a matter of time before one of those overhangs collapses on top of somebody. In any case, it's really not worth your gas money to look for gold here - there's very little of it, anyway. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. Lots of places hard to locate or picked over.

This book is an excellent source for locating several specific fossil sites. I visited some of the listed fossil sites 30 years ago when these fossil sites were not known to the public.
There are some excellent collecting suggestions and recommendations especially when collecting on BLM or Forest Service sites. It's always a good investment of time to read about collecting on or near protected sites. While I am not a Rock Hound collector, I would highly recommend adding this fossil resource book to your personal library. Have not done much rock hounding in Montana for a bout 30 years so this is a must for me.
